Davidson made his first TV appearance on the HBO comedy special “Robert Townsend & His Partners in Crime III”. Darren Carter, a freckle faced, red headed, pastie skinned youngster was raised in a predominately Latino area of Fresno, California. As he points out in his act, put a pair of dark rimmed glasses on the redhead and he was quickly dubbed “the Rooster” and the name followed him throughout his childhood. It was there that Carter learned to rap, break dance and use comedy as his method of acceptance into the neighborhood. He knew early on that intimidation just wasn’t going to work! “Hey homie, whatcha gonna do, peck me to death?”

Gallagher was one of the most popular and recognizable American comedians during the early 1980s. He produced at least one special a year from 1981 to 1987, all of which were carried by Showtime cable network and then re-broadcast numerous times throughout the year, especially on the Comedy Central channel. As of 2008, he has done 16 specials. His signature sketch is the “Sledge-O-Matic,” a large wooden mallet that Gallagher uses to smash a variety of objects.
