Chris Rock has never been celebrated for his subtlety. Why start now?
On Wednesday during a teaser for The Today Show, Rock dug into host Matt Lauer for Lauer’s unintentional blunder in relation to Chris Brown’s appearance on the show. Lauer off-handedly commented, “We’re hoping the same kind of weather hits us tomorrow when we’ve got Chris Brown out on the Plaza.”
Rock joked about the combination of the words “hit” and “Chris Brown” in the same sentence, suggesting that Lauer choose his words more carefully in the wake of Brown’s violent past. The tension in the room after Rock’s comment left the hosts feeling observably out of their comfort zones. Laughspin.Com reports, “Chris looked a lot more comfortable joking about the topic than the hosts.”
In order to diffuse the tension, Elmo piped in with a vow to “make it wholesome.” With his joking, yet pointed remark, Rock calls for Lauer to be more responsible with his words.
In the minds of many, it is almost reprehensible that the public is giving Brown another chance after the altercation between he and ex-girlfriend Rhianna brought international attention to the issue of domestic violence in 2009. Rock reminds the public that even though Brown is back on top, we should be mindful of his past and be respectful of those involved. Tell us what you think!
