CNN’s Piers Morgan on Patrice O’Neal’s Death: “She” Was Very Funny

A few nights ago CNN’s Piers Morgan sat down with comedian and actor Dane Cook. Cook is a native of Massachusetts, like the late Patrice O’Neal, so naturally O’Neal came up as a topic of conversation given his recent passing.
That’s where things went wrong for Morgan, who apparently had no idea who O’Neal was but decided to talk about him anyway. Morgan showed his ignorance by referring to O’Neal as “she” on two different occasions. “It’s a sad day for comedy with the death of Patrice O’Neal, who I know that you knew,” Morgan said to Dane Cook. “She died of a stroke today. I want to take a quick look at Patrice on ‘Jimmy Fallon,’ to remind everyone just how funny she was.”
In fairness, Patrice can be a woman’s name, but as a “journalist” on prime time television, it’s best you have all your facts before you delve into something.
Where the story becomes really ironic is when the full Jimmy Fallon interview clip is examined. Patrice makes a comment that a lot of people who don’t know who he is, hear his name and assume he’s a woman.
