Colbert Proposes to CA 10th District Representative…Surprised?

On Wednesday’s 62nd installment of his 434 part series “Better Know a District”, Stephen Colbert sat with California’s 10th congressional district Democratic representative and “rejected Microsoft Word font” John Garamendi. Garamendi’s District lies within the East San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California and hosts both the Jelly Belly and Budweiser Factories with only a five minute drive between them.
In response to Garamendi’s support for same-sex marriage, Colbert did what any curious and hard-hitting reporter would do: “hypothetically” propose marriage. And Stephen Colbert is no different.
A somewhat stunned yet unsurprised Garamendi tried to let him down easy. “I’m not sure you’re my type. … Don’t take that as an insult. I’m quite happily married now.” Better to be the giver than the receiver of rejection.
Also the subject of Colbert’s playful jabber is the fact that the Representative technically doesn’t live in the 10th district. His house is on the border between the 10th and the 3rd district. But his front yard is in the 10th district. That counts for something, right?
