Late night TV fans lucked out Wednesday when legendary comedian and sitcom star Jerry Seinfeld performed on the Late Show with David Letterman. Jerry was the first guest introduced, and was heralded by Letterman as one of the best comedians of all time.
Jerry’s stand-up routine focused heavily on what he calls “our cell phone culture.”
“I feel tired when the cell phone is running out of battery…I’m just tring to get to a charger, a call comes in, ‘I dont know how much time i have left!’” joked Seinfeld.
“There’s too much paranoia in the phone culture, I see. Caller ID, Star 69 who’s trying to get to me!?” he added. Then Seinfeld delved into how far things have changed with the addition of Star 69 to our lives.
“Years ago the phone would ring, someone in your hosue would go ‘I’ll get it!’ You haven’t heard that in a long time. Nobody says that anymore. Now the fone rings and people go, “Nobody move! Who the hell is 513!?”
In what was probably the funniest part of his routine, Jerry questioned the wisdom behind choosing 69 as the applications number.
“Star 69 that was the first feature…69, that’s the number they pick for this thing? Can someone explain to me how that slipped through an entire organization? There’s not one person who went to junior high in that phone company? Imagine you worked there…don’t you have to walk into that meeting room and say, ‘Are you guys kdding me? We can pick any numebr we want! We’re the phone company!’”
For the last part of Seinfeld’s bit, he mocked one of our favorite brand name drug commercials. “I know your familair with Cialis,” said Seinfeld. “Who sits in two different tubs, trying to get something going? Who even has two tubs unconnected to any plumbing of any kind…So you haul two tubs up the side of a mountain, and you wonder why you don’t have any energy for love making?”
Seinfeld will be performing all across the country until March 3rd. For more information check out http://www.jerryseinfeldtour.org.
