Katt Williams Discusses Mexican Rant During CNN Interview, Makes Semi-Apology (Video)

Comedian Katt Williams’ rant about Mexicans at a Phoenix Arizona night club has gone viral. As a result, the performer made an appearance on CNN this weekend to discuss the controversy, and address claims that he was spewing “hate speech” and that he is “anti-Mexican” or racist toward Latinos.
“If a person starts their heckling with ‘F–k America,’” said Williams to CNN host T.J. Holmes, “then that gives me a right to defend my country. I couldn’t be anti-mexican…my Mexican fan base is largely responsible for me even existing.” Williams then added, “I don’t think I need to apologize for being pro-American.”
AmericasComedy reported on the story when we first heard about it a week ago, but only now is the national mainstream media picking it up. As Williams points out during the interview, there had not been a large reaction to his comments until now. Throughout his rant there was actually a large portion of the audience cheering him on.
Interestingly there was some own confusion on the part of Williams’ camp, who released an apologetic statement without the comedians knowledge. “I’m not into apologizing,” said Williams. “That’s for the Tracy Morgan’s of the world.”
However, shortly after saying that the comedian apologized on air to anyone who felt that his words amounted to hate speech, and to the people who interpreted his comments as racist toward Mexicans.
