Jon Stewart is all packed and ready for his rally. On October 30, Stewart will hold “The Rally to Restore Sanity” in Washington D.C., which is going to be broadcast live on Comedy Central and streaming live on Comedycentral.com.
“When we originally announced the rally, we said it was for the people who are usually too busy to go to rallies,” Stewart said. “Well, funny story: Some very sensible people then said that, ‘I’m too busy to go to your rally.’
Comedy Central graciously agreed to forgo their regular scheduled afternoon programs to air the counter reply to Glenn Back’s recent “Restoring Honor” rally.
According to CBS reports, permits for the “Rally to Restore Sanity” have been approved for 60,000 people on the north half of the Washington Monument grounds. Trust for the National Mall President Catherine Cunningham thought it was a joke when she first received the phone call from the production team. She and Jon Newman from the non-profit public interest group “Public Citizen” joined CBS team during Tuesday’s “Washington Unplugged.”
“Jon Stewart’s rally could be bigger than Woodstock which had 500,000 people, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we have 100,000 or 200,000 people show up just from what people are saying online,” said Newman.
The group is also hosting the online contest “What Sign Should I Bring to Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity.” The winning slogan will be handed out during the rally. Nearly 4500 entries have been submitted. Some of them include “At least the war on the middle class is going well,” “I believe in the separation of corporation and state” and, “Too poor to buy a politician.”

Yay–that means I can watch it here in Korea. Would totally go if I could. I disagree with Jon Stewart a lot, but he’s hilarious and more honest and insightful than most “real” journalists.
Great details in this article, good job.
