‘Daily Show’ Correspondent Gets a Showtime Pilot

larry wilmore, the daily show, hbo, comedian, televisionLooks like The Daily Show’s Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore is about to join the ranks of Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert with his very own special on Showtime. Wilmore, a long time stand-up comedian, began working as a regular on the show in 2006, adding humorous content on the Black experience in America. However, come August 25, fans will see him take the spotlight.

The Showtime special, titled Race, Religion, & Sex, won’t be your ordinary special of classic stand-up. Instead, Wilmore will moderate a town hall meeting in Salt Lake City, Utah which will, according to Showtime’s President of Entertainment, David Nevins, “seek to enlighten viewers on the birthplace of Mormonism.” Nevins also went on to say that this mixture of humor and politics will be, “in time for the political conventions.”

If the special does well there are rumors of turning it into a series. With the proven rate of success of former Daily Show correspondents along with Wilmore’s talent, a series is definitely something to look forward to.
