Disabled Comedian’s Marketing Might Land Friend in Jail

Comedian Ally Bruener may be forcing one of her friends to spend time behind bars. Not over an offense towards Bruener, but because of a marketing ploy on her behalf.
On May 23 Bruener’s friend, Forest Thomer, was arrested for disorderly conduct in Cincinnati after asking the question, “[Do they] want to laugh at the crippled girl” during a public event.
Bruener is in a wheelchair due to her muscular dystrophy. However, she’s not letting it impede here career, but instead, to advance it. On Bruener’s website, it shows that the question was being used for marketing purposes and the comedian has nicknamed herself “The Crip” going so far as to sell T-shirts for $15 adorned with the phrase: “I Laughed at the Crippled Girl.”
While bitterness was not Thomer’s intention, it’s reported that after being asked to stop he continued his “disorderly” behavior.
“We were just going up to people and asking the question,” Thomer said. “You can’t just arrest people or have them arrested just because you don’t like what they are saying.”
Thomer was arrested because he “acted against an established policy without getting approval for marketing in a public place beforehand.” Thomer’s fourth degree misdemeanor charge was postponed today until July 17, a charge that could hand him a possible 30 day stint in jail.
Maybe Bruener will want to rethink her marketing strategy so no one else will be sent to the slammer. Tell us your thoughts!
