Eddie Murphy Working on “Beverly Hills Cop” Pilot

Comedian Eddie Murphy may be returning to television within the next year. Murphy is working with CBS to create a pilot for Beverly Hills Cop for next fall.
The pilot would be the continuation of the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy that Murphy was the star in back in the 80s and 90s.
If the pilot episode is successful then the “dramedy” series will pick up where the last movie left off and focus on Axel Foley’s son, Aaron. Aaron decides to follow in his dad’s shoes but he chooses not to work in Detroit. He decides to police the rich in the 90210 area in an attempt to escape his dad’s shadow.
Murphy is set to play Axel in the pilot, of course, and will possibly be a regular on the show if the pilot takes off. As of yet no other cast members have been announced.
It has been reported, however, that even though the role for Aaron is still open. One possibility is SNL cast member Jay Pharoah. Since he has impersonations and a physique that resembles Murphy in his younger days, he just might be perfect for the job.
The pilot is being written by Shawn Ryan, the creator of The Shield. Murphy definitely has his hands full to make the pilot a success, since he hasn’t been on television since he left Saturday Night Live.
Will he be successful in making the series an effective sequel to the films? Tell us what you think.
