How NOT to Bomb Onstage

Every comic’s worst nightmare is having to deal with a heckler in a comedy club. Try getting booed by 5,000 audience members.

On Saturday’s episode of the UK hit Britains’s Got Talent, contestant and amateur comedienne Elaine Williams took her chance in front of judges David Hasselhoff, Amanda Holden and British comic Michael McIntyre. It was her seventh time on stage. Hey, you gotta aim big to win big.

As Elaine begins, you can almost expect what is going to happen. Elaine tells a lame joke, the audience sits in shock and awkward silence. Apparently nobody understands the humor behind hairstyles and garlic bread.

Instead of bowing her head and waving her white flag in defeat, Williams did what every amateur comic does: attempt to win back the hearts of the strangers witnessing a re-enactment of Pearl Harbor. As the audience began throwing boos towards her, a very gracious “Oh, fuck off!” was thrown back at them.

Oops?

Take this as a lesson, comics. Everyone bombs onstage. Not everyone gets your sense of humor. But to curse out at the very people who could make or break your career? Oops.

Back for her standing ovation is comedienne Elaine Williams!
