Jon Stewart’s Humorous Take on President Obama’s Gay Marriage Endorsement

jon stewart, president obama, gay marriageThursday night on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart examined President Barack Obama’s same-sex endorsement that took place on Wednesday. The Huffington Post stated that Obama was forced to make this endorsement because of comments made by Vice President Joe Biden in an interview. CBS News reported that Biden said he was comfortable with two men or two women getting married.  Three days later, Obama told ABC News that “same sex couples should be able to get married.”

After hearing the news, Stewart joked that, “So a big-mouthed friend of yours said something about you that you were hoping to tell them in your own way.  Congratulations, Mr. President.  You really have walked a mile in gay America’s shoes.”

The Daily Show host also added, “It’s a great day when the president of the United States says on national television gay people should no longer be relegated to only planning other people’s weddings. It’s not right!  It’s like putting a cat in charge of the gold fish toss game.”

Huffington Post reported that Stewart was surprised networks like Fox News were not attacking same-sex marriage conceptually.  The networks are instead more focused on how this aspect will tie into the rest of Obama’s campaign strategy.
