Louis C.K.: Tracy Morgan is Wrong, Cruel, Ignorant, and Hilarious

“Comedians stick together” seems to be the unwritten rule for every funny man in the world. Louis C.K. jumped to the rescue for Tracy Morgan just like Spiderman swinging down to save Mary Jane from the Green Goblin.
After the now infamous stand-up disaster in Nashville while joking about “gay kids”, Tracy Morgan, the outrageously quirky costar of NBC’s 30 Rock has finally offended people on too many levels, especially gay rights activists. Although many feel compelled to express their anger, Morgan’s comedian peers urge another respectable explanation.
Fellow comedian, Louis C.K., in trying to help the population understand the comedy profession, responded through Twitter stating, “Tracy Morgan said something wrong, evil, cruel, ignorant and hilarious. He was on a comedy stage, not at a pulpit.” C.K’s opinion doesn’t make what Morgan said any different, but it shows the close-knit relationship between a comic and his audience.
Unrestrained speech has always been a safe haven for comedians. To make fun of or comment on any subject, no matter how tasteless has always been the trump card held by comics, given to them by us, the audience. This acceptable lack of restraint is much like the gossip we speak without really thinking of the outcome. It is also fair to say that much of Morgan’s banter was quite tasteless as he said he would “pull out a knife and stab” his own son to death if he was gay.
Since the much reported event, Morgan has apologized and planned to help protest the, “Don’t Say Gay” bill with GLAAD to assert that his jokes were meaningless and that he shows his support. Morgan has fallen into a rough spot, but with his continuous work to patch up what he said, we can all put this behind us.
