Martin Lawrence and Wife Divorce, Cite ‘Irreconcilable Differences’

martin lawrence, divorce, comedianAccording to TMZ, comedian and actor Martin Lawrence of the cult classics Bad Boys and Big Momma’s House, is divorcing his wife of almost two years. “Irreconcilable differences” were stated by the comic as the reason for the split. Last Wednesday, April 25, the divorce was filed with L.A. County Superior Court.

Martin and Shamicka Lawrence were married in July of 2010 but had dated for a few years before that. Together they share two daughters, a 9 and 11 year-old.

The two issued a joint statement that read, “Out of love and respect for one another we will continue to remain friends and raise our two beautiful daughters together.”

The divorce papers assure that Lawrence wants joint legal custody of the girls so he can share equal decisions in their lives. The comic also wants joint physical custody which mean the newly separated parents would be dividing the time they spend with their children equally.

This is not Lawrence’s first marriage. In fact, in 1995 he married Miss Virginia, Patricia Southall. They divorced almost two years later and also share a daughter. Between Shamicka and Lawrence, their filing does include a prenuptial agreement.
