Mike Epps Set to Play Richard Pryor in New Movie ‘Nina’

Mike Epps will be playing the role of Richard Pryor in an upcoming film, but the film will not be focused on the life of Pryor. A film entitled Nina, a biopic about the late jazz musician and classical pianist Nina Simone, will feature Epps along with Zoe Saldana playing the role of Nina.
It will focus on Simone’s rise to fame and relationship with her manager Clifton Henderson (played by David Oyelowo). IndieWire reports that the movie will begin filming this week in Los Angeles. Epps is no stranger to the big screen. He has made appearances in films such as The Hangover, Next Friday, Lottery Ticket, and Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. Surely, he will have no problem playing the role of the iconic comedian.
Cinema Blend reports that in her autobiography, Simone wrote about how she would calm Pryor down from his stage fright before every show when he would open for her back in the early 60s.
However, not everyone is thrilled about the making of this film. Simone’s daughter has been vocal about her opposition to the way the film is coming together. Hopefully Saldana, Epps, and Oyelowo will be able to thoroughly capture Simone’s life in a realistic manner.
Do you think this cast is up to the challenge?
