The Late Patrice O’Neal’s New 20 Minute Comedy Track

Three months after comedian Patrice O’Neal passed away, his comedy album Mr. P was released. And damn was it good. O’Neal displayed a fearless brand of comedy that was both relatable, informative and endearing.
The content on Mr. P was recorded at the D.C. Improv on a Friday, and now a 20 minute single titled Better Than You from his Sunday performance at the same venue will be released uncut on election day, November 6. The single is produced by BSeenMedia, the same company who handled Mr. P.
“The truth is Patrice wanted the Friday show in its most natural form without any major edits,” said Patrice’s wife, Vondecarlo Brown. “The ‘Better Than You’ bit was a difficult decision to leave out, and we went back and forth about it for a while. In the end, he said, hey maybe we’ll use it in some other way later after we release it how it is. That ‘some other way’ was bonus material at the end of the CD, I assumed at the time.”
Brown also pointed out how badly Patrice wanted this set to be untouched, so fans could truly appreciate the performance. “The ‘Better Than You’ track was from the Sunday show if my memory serves, and Mr P is the Friday show. Again, it was important for Patrice to release the project in its most natural form, and yes, I do feel it is important for people to hear all of his work– specifically bits he felt he would use in some way himself.”
