The fabulous comedian Eddie Izzard will grace San Francisco’s SK Sketchfest Comedy Festival and be honored on January 25, 2012 at 8 pm. The ceremony will take place at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre.
Spending a night watching clips and excerpts from some of Izzard’s past stand-up routines sounds like a good night but add the real-life British comic to the mix and my head might explode. The event will be just that – a night to view a bit of Izzard’s career and also an onstage conversation. The audience will be given some time where they can ask the comedian questions and receive some answers. Like I said, mind-blowing.
Izzard has been a huge success as a stand-up comedian. When I first watched his material, he had been wearing perfectly done make-up and heels. It was his Dress to Kill tour in 1998, and it was utterly life-changing. It had a similar Monty Python-esque style and in fact at one point John Cleese, a member of the original Monty Python cast had stated that Izzard was the “Lost Python.”
Above all else, I found Izzard brilliant and as it would seem, I’m not alone in that thought. Comedy Central even put him on their “100 Greatest Stand-ups” list at number 75.
In a revival cast, the 49-year-old comedian received a Tony Award nomination for A Day in the Death of Joe Egg as well as other stage credits which include Lenny, Race, and The Cryptogram.
It doesn’t end there. He goes on to do movies and shows such as The Riches, The Unites States of Tara, Mystery Men, and Across the Universe. Just last year, Izzard’s documentary Believe: The Eddie Izzard Story received an Emmy Award nomination in the category of “Outstanding Nonfiction Special.”

You are not the dorkiest person in the world. Good write up on Eddie Izzard. Sounds like a wonderful night to spend in San Francisco. He’s the best there is for deep, dorky, silly, absurdists.
