San Francisco’s Comedy Day Festival Arrives September 16

comedy day, 2012, stand-upThe late comedian Jose Simon had a dream to discover a free, outside comedy celebration. In 1981 that dream came true when he created the annual San Francisco festival “Comedy Day.” This year “Comedy Day” will take place in Sharen Meadow at Golden Gate Park on September 16. Forty comedians from all over will be there, joking from 12 noon to 5 pm. If you’ve never gone before, you could be imagining that this event gets pretty pricey, but you’d be more than wrong. It’s absolutely free!

Board President of “Comedy Day” Debi Durst stated, “Our audience has nothing to lose, and laughs to gain. In fact, Comedy Day could save your life! Research has shown that laughter reduces pain and stress, eases autoimmune diseases and improves the activity of natural killer cells, which may benefit cancer patients.”

Continuing on the subject of curing cancer, “Comedy Day” has joined forces with  Bonnie J. Addario’s Lung Cancer Foundation and has dedicated the show to the charity for helping research and treatments. Because of it, “Live to Laugh, Laugh to Live” has become the theme of the festival.

Over 60,000 people have flocked to the festivities in a single day, drawn in by the hilarious stand-up. Many big names have performed at “Comedy Day” including: Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg, Dave Chappelle, Greg Giraldo, Garry Shandling, Ellen DeGeneres, Eddie Izzard, Dana Carvey, Bobcat Goldthwait, Paula Poundstone, Brian Copeland, Rob Schneider, George Lopez, Will Durst, Greg Proops, Margaret Cho, Greg Behrendt, Dana Gould, Tom Kenney, Dave Attell, Arj Barker, Brian Regan, Jake Johannsen, Patton Oswalt, Janeane Garofalo, Carlos Alazraqui and Father Guido Sarducci.

We love it so much, AmericasComedy.Com is proud to be a media sponsor of the event! Get healthy and add a lot of humor in your life by coming out and celebrating the San Francisco tradition of “Comedy Day.”
