Cort Tafoya | Nov 11, 2012 | Comments 0
AmericasComedy.Com is looking for communications majors, social media geeks and writers who love the Internet and enjoy comedy in all forms.
The ideal candidate is well versed in the power of social media, and maintains an active Twitter and Facebook account.
About AmericasComedy.Com
Our website is well known for it’s in-depth interviews with comedians like Pablo Francisco, Cedric the Entertainer, Whitney Cummings, Bob Saget, Nick DiPaolo, Kevin Pollak, Susie Essman, Dat Phan, Anthony Jeselnik, Michael DeStefano, George Wallace, Jimmy Pardo, Luenell and many others. We have grown over 120% in the past year!
Job Description
Four to five days a week you’ll be asked to post our stories, viral memes or videos on multiple social media accounts, as well as help build and create a following for us on LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and more! We want to promote engagement, interact with our fans and start a discussion on the daily with them about what’s going on in the world of comedy.
Using software called Hootsuite, you’ll be able to schedule and disseminate automated tweets and posts to share our stories and engage with our fans.
Every two weeks we’ll export the analytics and statistics from our social media accounts to see what strategies are working best. We’ll also provide you with plenty of reading material about the best new practices in social media.
Build Your Resume
At AmericasComedy.Com, we believe in the value of staff training and development. And why wouldn’t we? The more you understand about social media and online journalism, the better you will be at your position with our website.
This internship will teach you the best new social media practices being used online. You’ll learn how you can expedite the social media process, build a following and analyze social media data. You’ll also see how networking and under the radar social media sites like StumbleUpon.Com can pay huge dividends.
Furthermore, through videos, emails, screenshots and educational links, you’ll be provided with great knowledge on how to take advantage of WordPress publishing, search engine optimization (SEO) and more. We’ll make sure your resume is beefed up with skills that employers in the online world of journalism want to see.
Comedy News
AmericasComedy.Com also includes a daily dose of comedians in the news. We are seeking writers who can write breaking stories and provide short (250-400 word) blog posts twice a week. Our comedy news section is updated daily and blogging is a great way to add to your byline or your writing portfolio.
Super Secret Facebook Group
Our writers get to join our private and super secret Facebook group, which we use as our “water cooler” to pitch story ideas, share news stories and talk about ways to grow our website. Staff meetings (WebEx conference calls) are kept to a minimum with most communication between writers, editors, and the publisher via email.
Our Staff
Roughly fifteen individuals from all over the country contribute to AmericasComedy.Com. Our writers have also performed stand-up comedy, hosted their own podcasts and even created their own websites. Together these individuals create an exciting opportunity to network and learn new skills.
We’ve been staffed by individuals from colleges such as New York University, University of Arkansas, California State University Fullerton, George Fox University, Otterbein University and more.
Compensation
As a non-revenue generating site, AmericasComedy.Com is unable to pay for each article submitted. We do, however, have a financial reward for those writers that get the most traffic both weekly and monthly. Though not enough to quit your day job, it does allow a payout of a couple hundred dollars a month for those writers that take an active role in using their social media (Facebook sharing, Tweeting, Blogging, Tumblr, StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, etc.) to spread their proverbial writing “seed” to the internet winds.
