Spin Doctors are ‘Shaolin Monks’ of Politics; Julian Smith’s ‘Reservation’

With the presidential campaign in full blast, there is an emerging cultural need for Spin Doctors. When I say “Spin Doctor,” I’m not talking about a dance DJ ready to lay out the grooves for my jamming out pleasure. Spin doctors, as The Daily Show explains, are the people who interpret your misunderstood comments so you don’t look like a total scum leaping into the hole you just dug for yourself. In fact, one of The Daily Show’s correspondents says they are known for “putting a positive spin on any scandal that a politician may come up with.” Basically, we really wish we could carry our own Spin Doctor in our pocket when these situations occur.
Ever had a date where you couldn’t leave soon enough? Awkward silences, spilling food on yourself and/or getting pelted with arrows while nobody really acknowledges what is happening to you? Julian Smith’s YouTube “Reservation” may not be very long, but it makes a point. That, or it goes for shock value. I’ve been wondering though, is this all happening in his head or is that Katniss hiding in the bushes?
