Recently the comedian/actor visited a class of Princeton graduates and served up a classic commencement speech that had all of his talents on full display.
He touched on relevant topics, like young adults’ weirdly excessive reliance on every social media gadget ever made, and left the graduates with an overall message of, “My point is, I suffered and you should have to suffer, too. You are young. And because of that, you are wrong.”
The speech by Carell had a personal Princeton touch to it, with shout-outs to a couple well known students. He also took a nice jab at Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert, who according to Carell, “Is the worst.”
Unlike most comedic commencement speakers, Carell emphasized that his goal on that day was for his words to be passed down, “for generations to come. That your children, and children’s children will reap the benefits of what I have sewn here today.”
