Everyone looks forward to anything exciting that the interwebs does, specifically when there’s pressure for every website to pull off something on the same day! So we’ve compiled a recap of the weirdness that was April Fools’ Day 2013.

1. Google Nose:

Last week, I cooked something and my Dad saw the pictures but he wanted a smell with taste test technology. A week later, I see Google Nose. How revolutionary!… until you catch me shoving my nose into my laptop. Score – 1 for Google, Sammy – eternal shame.

2. Twitter announces Twttr:

Twitter went with a slightly cute, not entirely funny, but funny-enough-to-have-moderate-force-of-air-come-out-of-your-nostrils gimmick.  They announced a Twitter with only consonants. Actually there was quite a bit of air that came out of my nostrils when the post said, “For five dollar a month, you can use our premium “Twitter” service which also includes vowels.”

Vimeo, the famous video-uploading website, transformed their webpage solely for cat videos. I think all of the internet was okay with that. (Extra point for the witty name change!)

4. Google Maps Treasure Hunt:

If there is any website that nailed the April Fool’s day gag, it’s definitely Google. The treasure hunt map was just downright genius. Of course, I want to see a pirate-ish version of New York City with a cartoon piece of meat to show the Meat Packing District on the map. Yes, Google, show the rest of the world how it’s done!

5. YouTube Shutting Down:

We all saw the YouTube spotlight video. Frankly, it seemed a little extra. Like as if YouTube would really shut down, with the amount of revenue they’re generating from the different celebrities and even random popular YouTube-ers, that’s just extra. I can call their little gag cute, but they could’ve done so much more.

6. Imgur introduces a new uploading option: Snail Mail

If you’re trying to pull off a gag just for a day, you may not want it to be super extravagant, but definitely it needs to be witty enough to get noticed. I think Imgur totally nailed that with the Snail Mail option.

7. Digg Rick Rolls the Konami Code:

You remember that weird code that was passed around in forwards a while ago, right? Konami Code AKA Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A. So, Digg did their own awesome take on it.

Give a bunch of cat lovers random weapons, split them based on two colors and watch a civil war breakdown. Oh and throw in hats, where users can give other people hats and if you give a hat to someone on your team (Orangered or Periwinkle)  the team’s points go up. A username will hold the number of hats they earned. I’ll confess to being very actively involved in that. But I never got to see how many hats I collected because I signed in post-midnight. DAMN YOU SALAZARRRRRR!!!

Deviantart.com turned their website into the very first dating site in the world specifically for artists. That’s a lot of free Starbucks, ZING! (Pun intended, if you got the joke)

Everybody loves a little of ‘Murica introduced in their logo. Pirate Bay turned their whole ship into the American Flag and took a twist on the freedom part. I wish they involved the American Bald Eagle for that juicy patriotic happiness!

Well, there we are. I’m sure there was more, but this was all I remembered. I hope you all had an eventful April Fool’s Day!

Recently world-renowned skateboarder Tony Hawk and world-renowned comedian Louis C.K. joined forces to create an intriguing merger of fans and audiences.

While both men are known by people all over the world, a recent interview between the two directly introduced both to their respective fan bases. On Hawk’s YouTube channel RIDE, which launched earlier this year, the skateboarder and comedian conversed in Detroit about “Reddit, Dane Cook and pushing the limits of comedy.”

In the video below Hawk starts off by asking C.K. how he gets so many great actors and comedians to do cameos on his show Louie. While C.K. admitted that many people he reaches out to are more than willing, he also joked, “I’m at a point now where I get nice ‘No’s.”

When the topic switched to Dane Cook, C.K. said that “for a while all people would ask me about was Cook stealing my jokes.”

Hawk revealed he’s an enormous fan of C.K., saying the comedian is  “Smart, funny, poignant, crude, inappropriate and innovative; all the qualities of a genius in my opinion.”

The interview delves into some great topics, like how C.K. handles fans who openly hate him, and C.K.’s analysis of his life now is always thought provoking.

Comedian Nathan Anderson has created a new Reddit page for those who cannot stay focused on any one thing for too long.  Anderson created a subreddit called Standup for Short Attention Spans where there are memes of comedians on stage with their joke next to them.

The page has become a popular success, more so than Anderson first anticipated.  The subreddit has brought in 4,500 subscribers and tens of thousands of page views,LaughSpin.Com reported.

“I have been posting my standup videos on Reddit for years,” Anderson said.  “Never have I had that level of success.”

LaughSpin also reported that Anderson started the page, which was named “SubReddit of the Day” on Saturday, a week ago after joking around with a fellow comic about the style of memes.  Within 24 hours, the first meme he created had 44,000 views.

The subreddit has been beneficial for up and coming comics, like David Sherrill who gained 340 new Twitters followers after his post was featured on the front page of Reddit.

Anderson has been receiving a wide variety of submission from comics, stretching from Los Angeles to the UK.  It seems Anderson has created something beneficial for those who cannot sit through a comedy show.  Will you be the next short attention span follower of the new subreddit Standup for Short Attention Spans?

Michael Ian Black followed in the footsteps of other comedians such as Louis C.K., Aziz Ansari and Rob Delaney this weekend by participating in a Reddit AMA. The AMA stands for “ask me anything” and, with comedians in particular, it has a proclivity to provide some great humor.

In honor of his new, “America, You Sexy Bitch: A Love Letter to Freedom” book that’s set to hit shelves and Kindles, Black invited the Internet to ask him anything. A picture of him sleeping in the New Orleans airport surfaced, questions concerning Black’s former shows Michael and Michael have Issues and Stella were posed, and a story told of a guy who got laid because a drunk chick thought he was Black’s doppleganger.

“I just wanted to thank you for getting me laid once. Some drunk girl said I looked like you. Thanks. By the way, I look nothing like you sir,” said the lucky participant.

Black responded: “Cool, can I smell your finger?”

Propositions about a Wet Hot American Summer sequel were tossed around humorously but unanswered, as were other inquiries into the progress of the DVD release of the old NBC show Ed.

SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) Signed on for Daniel Tosh’s ‘Brickleberry’

Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert announced that he will be providing his support to the Reddit Gifts for Troops campaign on Monday, making him their first gift giver.  Colbert also recently received the honor of being the first man to be included on Maxim’s Hot 100 list.  Looks like he’s making his “list of firsts” shorter everyday.

The Reddit Gifts campaign allows users to trade materials in a secret-santa type of program.  Troops sign up and submit care package wishlists which are then given to Reddit Santas.  Social News Daily reported that Reddit Gifts have ranged from DVDs and letters to DVD players and laptops.

Colbert became aware of the program last year during his Restoring Truthiness Rally.  In less than 8 hours the Reddit Gifts program was able to raise over $100,000 for the event.

Reddit announced Monday that more celebrities will be following Colbert’s lead and join the program for troops exchange.  Signups for the troops and santas has already began and does not end until June 18.  Care packages will be sent out by July 9.
