With VEEP premiering on HBO tonight, Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals how she prepared for the role of a lifetime. After all, playing the Vice President of the United States can’t be that easy. Or is it?
When getting ready to portray her role as Vice President Selina Meyer in this highly anticipated series, the Emmy award winner says she watched a lot of C-SPAN. The reason behind it? According to the Huffington Post, ”She wanted to study how to answer questions in a public setting without really answering them.”
“Some politicians are better at it than others. It’s a performance. Particularly these days. People don’t really answer questions. In this culture of sound bites and 24-hour news … people are careful about how they speak,” says Louis-Dreyfus. In the series, Selina Meyer is an outspoken, powerful woman who quickly realizes that her role as Vice President wasn’t what she thought it would be.
“I love my character. I love her narcissism, I love her rage, I love her ambition and I love the fact that she’s a political animal,” says Louis-Dreyfus. If you want to catch Louis-Dreyfus on VEEP tune in to HBO tonight at 10. Don’t miss it!
