AmericasComedy.Com features a talented staff of superb review writers. We’ve caught the eye of comedy album production companies and have become a terrific source to our fans for recaps of the latest comedy CD’s. But there’s more to the world of comedy than just albums. Comedian inspired television shows, podcasts, web series and more are all material and forums that we’re eager to cover.
AmericasComedy.Com is looking for die hard comedy fans who get a kick out of watching and listening to new, fresh comedy and can’t wait to share their thoughts with the world.
Television
The world is filled with great comedy on TV and comedians are being given more opportunities than ever to show what they can do. New shows like Daniel Tosh’s Brickleberry, The Mindy Kaling Project, Jeff Ross’ The Burn, Russell Brand’s BrandX are entertaining, provocative and represent a growing trend in the entertainment business. With a host of new comedy shows set to air this fall, we’re looking for passionate comedy writers who enjoy following new comedy shows and giving their well articulated opinion about them. Emphasis will be on series premieres and finales.
Podcasts
Podcasts are a great way for up and coming comedians to reach their fans and show off their sense of humor. They’re easily downloadable, free and provide an excellent break from a comedy fans workday. Furthermore they’re mobile, as fans can simply download them onto their iPods. With the audience size of comedy podcasts growing every day, we’re looking for a devoted podcast fan who can keep us and our readers abreast of what’s new in this highly entertaining and exciting world of comedy.
Web Series
A few months ago LA Weekly did a story about the top 5 web series comedy fans should be watching. It caught our eye and got us thinking that along with podcasts, there’s another world being exploited where comedians can show off their skills. New web series’ like Gigi Almost American, Sunset Junction, Human Resources and Laps are developing strong followings and have the possibility of being picked up by TV networks. They’re often starred in by young comedians and unknown comedy writers who we’re interested in learning about before they become Uber famous. If you’re a fan of web series and want to write knowledgeable reviews about their content and cast, you’re a perfect fit for our website.
Comedy Album Reviews
They say everyone’s a critic.. but is that true? We are looking for articulate writers that can listen to and review comedians like Louis C.K., Patton Oswalt, Lewis Black, Pete Holmes, Kurt Metzger, or Amy Schumer. We often receive promotional copies of CD’s, DVD’s and digital CD’s that you can add to your collection while enlightening our readers.
Comedy News
AmericasComedy.Com includes a daily dose of comedians in the news. We are also seeking writers who can write breaking stories and provide short (250-400 word) blog posts, two to three times a week. Our comedy news section is updated daily and blogging is a great way to add to your byline or your writing portfolio.
Super Secret Facebook Group
Our writers get to join our private and super secret Facebook group, which we use as our “water cooler” to pitch story ideas, share news stories, and talk about ways to grow our website. Staff meetings (WebEx conference calls) are kept to a minimum with most communication between writers, editors, and the publisher via email.
Build Your Resume
At AmericasComedy.Com we believe in the value of staff training and development. And why wouldn’t we? The more you understand about web publishing and social media, the better you will be at your position with our website. Through videos, emails, screenshots and educational links, you’ll be provided with great knowledge on how to take advantage of WordPress publishing, search engine optimization and your own social media accounts. We’ll make sure your resume is beefed up with skills that employers in the online world of journalism want to see.
Compensation
As a non-revenue generating site, AmericasComedy.Com is unable to pay for each article submitted. We do, however, have a financial reward for those writers that get the most traffic both weekly and monthly. Though not enough to quit your day job, it does allow a payout of a couple hundred dollars a month for those writers that take an active role in using their social media (Facebook sharing, Tweeting, Blogging, Tumblr, StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, etc.) to spread their proverbial writing “seed” to the internet winds.
Interested?
People who have a background in writing, communications, journalism, or just love comedy are welcome to send in a cover letter with two writing samples to Cort Tafoya, Co-Owner and Editor-in-Chief at CortTafoya@AmericasComedy.com. Please include any experience you have using social media. The most important qualification for writing for our website is a knowledge and passion for comedians and their craft.
